1-2-3 FAMILY! These were the last words shared between the group of 13 teammates belonging to the 2018-19 UWC-East girls basketball team. This group started the year with a lot of unfamiliar faces and uncertainty about the way the upcoming season would take shape. Like any family, we had our share of ups and downs, adversity, and hard decisions. It was in those difficult times that our team began to come together and find their identity. Each time they took the floor during the SEASAC tournament they played with passion, heart, toughness, and they played for each other. After losing their first game to the eventual SEASAC champions the girls won three games in a row with a chance to make it to finals. In a back and forth game it came down to the final minutes where we eventually fell to the runner-up of the tournament. In an eerily similar game for third-place, the game slipped through our fingers in the final seconds, ending in a fourth-place finish at SEASAC. Although it was difficult to lose the final two games in such dramatic fashion, the future of girls basketball here at East is bright. We will return 10 of our 13 girls for the 2019-20 season! To the grade 12's that are leaving us, you will always be part of our family. Thank you to all the girls for a great season, I am already looking forward to next year. Go Dragons!
