Merlion Swimming Sprint Festival 2018

On the 6th of October 2018 the UWCSEA East Dragons competed at this years TTS Merlion Sprint Festival, 60 amazing swimmers turned up at 6:30 in the morning to ready to compete, with many swimmers were excited to only swim the sprint events. The Merlions Sprint Festival is one of the few meets the Dragons compete in which includes both heats and finals, which allowed the younger swimmers to practice a new concept.

The Meet started after a hectic warm-up with the mixed 11 & over 100 meter butterfly, with Mia touching in 6th with a 1:18.8 and with Tanisha touching not far behind in 8th, Kento swimming a 2 second PB to touch in 3rd with a 1:15.68. With the older swimmers not long after, Ruby touched in second place with a best time with Lucy finishing in 8th, the boys also had some great races as well with Owen touching in 3rd and Hamza swimming a superb 1:01.93 that came out of absolutely nowhere.

Next up was the 100 meter backstroke, on the girls side there were some amazing swims from both Tanvi and Dominique and Alle touched first in the 15& over final to grab the gold. On the boys side Giles Flint with a great swim to take 5th in the 11-12 final and Adam Pickford dropping 2 seconds to touch 3rd in the 13-14 final, and In the 15& over final Jeremy Kemp and Owen Allwood touched 2nd and 3rd respectively to finish off the event.

Shortly after it was time of the 200 IM, with Olivia dropping an Incredible 21 seconds and Isabella swimming a huge PB with a 2:56.94, and rounding off the girls Ruby swimming a impressive 2:33.52 to touch first. On the Boys side Kento dropped 2 seconds to finish 2nd and shortly after Lucas May dropped 4 seconds in a solid swim, and to round off the event Jeremy pand Ben finishing 5th and 7th in the 15& over age.

The Next event was the 100 meter breaststroke, On the girls side Adi swimming just outside her best to touch 2nd and Ruby dropping 5 seconds with a incredible swim to touch in 5th. Kento swam another PB finishing just outside the podium and Jasper had a stand out swim finishing first in hisb age group with a 1:12.15, with Loch swimming just outside his best, finishing 4th. Benswam a 1:12.25 finishing in second with Gus not far behind in 4th and David in 8th.

The Final event for the morning session was the 11 & over 100 meter freestyle, which saw Nea Martin finish 9th in her age with a 1:10.71, and Isabella G swimming a best time dropping 8 seconds, and the girls finished the morning off with Alle coming 1st and Lucy and Poppy coming in behind her finishing 9th and 10th. The boys were next with Oliver Andersen dropping a huge 19 second PB, and Aditya swimming a 1.7 second PB. The Morning session ended with the older boys with Nicolai coming in 2nd with Alex coming close behind in 5th.

The Afternoon session started with the 50 fly, the girls started with Klaudia finishing 2nd with Ninah Into coming in 9th in the 8-10 age. In the 11-12 Dominique finished in 9th and Nea swam a PB just missing out on the finals. In the 13-14 age group Mia Cristi swam just outside her best to finish in 9th, In the 15 & over age Ruby finished in 3rd with a PB and Alle coming just behind in 4th. The boys were up next Ansel started them off finishing 7th in the 8-10 age group, Jasper finished 7th in 13-14 finals with Kiril and Lucas May just missing out on the Finals, Finishing off the 50 fly Owen and Alex finished 1st and 2nd with Hamza, Chien and Roope finishing behind them.

The 50 back started with Klaudia tying for 5th in 8-10 final with linda just missing out by one spot, Dominique swam a great PB finishing 9th in the 11-12 final, Isabella swam a 2 second pb in the heats but just missed out on a spot in the 13-14 finals. Kento finished finished 2nd with a PB in his age group with Giles close behind in 6th, In 13-14 final Adam just missed a podium finish touching in 4th, the 15 & over boys put on a show to finish the 50 back, with Chien, Owen and Jeremy sweeping the podium.

Soon after was the 50 breast, which started off with Linda swimming a PB to touch 1st in the 8-10 age with Klaudia finished 3rd and Ninah to far behind in 5th. Jhanvi swam a PB just missing out on a finals spot. The boys were up next with Ansel grabbing a podium finish touching in 3rd in the 8-10 age, Joachiem and Kevin finished 8th & 9th respectively in the 11-12 final. Jasper finished 1st in the 13-14 final with Rasmus and Loch finishing close behind coming 5th & 6th and Samh rounded of the final coming in 10th, the 15& over boys finished the 50 breast with Ben and Gus touching 2nd and 3rd with David and Hamza not far behind coming 7th and 8th.

The Final event of the day was the 50 free, and it kicked off with Klaudia coming in 3rd and Linda coming 9th in the 8-10 age group , Dominique swam just outside her best coming 7th in the 11-12 finals, Isabella G swam another PB but just missed out the finals, the girls concluded the meet with 1st place finish from Alle with Lucy and Poppy following in 8th & 9th. The boys finals started with Ansel finishing 10th in the 8-10 final, Joachiem finished 5th in the 11-12 final, Jasper and Loch just missed out on the 13-14 finals but both swam great races. The meet concluded with the 15 & over final in which Nicolai finished in 2nd with Jeremy close behind in 4th, just missing out on a podium finish, Chien and Roope rounded off the final finishing 9th & 10th.

It was a great weekend for the Dragons with many great swims and a huge amount of PBs simply too many to include every single one her, and congratulations to Alle for winning overall girl for her age group.
