Dragons Badminton Invitational 2019

Even though I had much competitive badminton experience, dragons invitational felt different. Perhaps it was because it’s my first year in U19 girls A, perhaps it was because the amount of talent in each hall was incredible. Being one of the weaker players, I was benched half of the time in the tournament. Though I was initially upset, I was able to observe and appreciate everybody’s effort to make this happen. International students all over Singapore trained hard for this event, people in charge had spent time and effort into making sure that the games were fair and even. I felt grateful that I was able to participate in such an event.

Dragons Invitational was our first ever tournament that my team ever competed. To some of the other teammates, this is their first ever tournament. The one aspect that was so much different than other games I’d participated was the support we gave each other. We and other schools supported each other no matter the circumstance and collectively there was a substantial amount of positivity. This reminded me of one thing: no matter how clichéd it sounds, teamwork makes the dream work. Supporting each other made me realise that no one can do anything alone. We all have to help each other.
